Summer's Voice For Her Sisters

My name is Summer Adams. I have many indigenous family members who have been affected by various forms of violence against indigenous peoples, so this is an issue for me. I’ve chosen to create art for the MMIWG (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls) because I want to be a voice for my people. I want to bring more awareness to what is happening to our Indigenous women and girls. It’s very sad that most people who live in BC have no clue what is going on. Many Indigenous women and girls are going missing all the time and barely anything is being done. It is very upsetting for me, as I know many indigenous women and I worry if one day they’ll go missing and no one will do anything about it. I’m young. I’m a women. I’m indigenous. Our lives matter. I drew three barn owl carrying red ribbon to represent passing wisdom. We need more people to know about the horrible things going on regarding our Sisters. We need to pass on the things we know about the topic to other people in hopes it’ll reach the right person, and we can have something done about our missing Sisters. They need justice. The red ribbon represents the Missing Indigenous Women, and the owls represent us; the people who are able to spread the word to more members of our community. We need to take a stand. We need change. Time spent on this work was 13 hours and 30 minutes.
